As part of its conversion to electric drives and software at its headquarters in Wolfsburg, the Volkswagen Group wants to invest a lot of money in a new development center. Around 800 million euros could be invested in the "Campus Sandkamp", according to a letter from CEO Herbert Diess, works council chief Daniela Cavallo and HR director Gunnar Kilian to the workforce on Friday. The campus is supposed to guarantee the efficiency of the technical development at the location of the group headquarters and be there for several areas. One of the goals is to prepare the workforce for future tasks in the changing industry.
A modernization fund will also invest a total of 125 million euros in Volkswagen AG locations over the next five years. The money should only be used to increase the attractiveness of Volkswagen as an employer.
The measures are part of the new corporate strategy up to 2030, which Diess intends to present next week and which were part of the deliberations of the Supervisory Board before the weekend. According to the letter, the employees of the future battery cell factory in Salzgitter will also be employees of Volkswagen AG.
