The asparagus harvest in Schleswig-Holstein is only picking up speed slowly due to the relatively low temperatures. The asparagus could currently use more warmth and sun, the Chamber of Agriculture announced on Thursday. With rising temperatures, more supply can be expected. Compared to the start of the season a few weeks ago, prices have now fallen slightly. The Chamber did not provide exact price information. Now the harvest will also start apart from the so-called early systems.
According to the information, around 50 farms in Schleswig-Holstein grow asparagus on an area of around 500 hectares, mainly between Lübeck and Lauenburg. More than 90 percent of the harvest would be marketed directly, i.e. in farm shops or at weekly markets.
