The Japanese ship propeller manufacturer Nakashima Propeller takes over a majority stake in the Hamburg company Becker Marine Systems (BMS). As a leading company in the development and manufacture of ship rudders, BMS will keep the name and management and nothing will change for the employees, said BMS manager Henning Kuhlmann on Monday. It is not about saving costs, but about opening up new markets, especially in Asia. The parties involved did not comment on details of the majority takeover by Nakashima Propeller, based in Okayama.
With around 230 employees, Becker Marine Systems has been dealing with steering gear, energy saving options and the reduction of pollutants in ships for more than 70 years. More than 8000 ships have already been equipped by BMS. The company Nakashima Propeller, with which a strategic partnership has existed for decades, is regarded as the world market leader in the production of ship propellers.
According to the information, Nakashima Propeller and BMS want to offer complete packages for propellers and rudder systems in both the new construction and retrofit areas. Nakashima Propeller also offers bow thruster systems, BMS energy saving and battery systems. Both companies also have flow simulation departments.
