belarus Secret services allegedly prevent the attack on Lukashenko
Has an armed uprising been prepared in Belarus in which the leadership should have overthrown, the president, his family and high-ranking officials should have been killed?
In belarus According to the Russian domestic secret service FSB, an attack on the ruler Alexander Lukashenko was prevented.
Together with the authorities in neighboring Belarus, two men were arrested in Moscow, said the FSB in Moscow on Saturday evening. One of the opposition members is also a US citizen.
The chief of the Belarusian Secret service KGB, Iwan Tertel, said in a video that an armed uprising had been prepared in which the leadership should have overthrown, the president, his family and high-ranking officials should have been killed. In addition, important buildings in the ex-Soviet republic were to be occupied.
Lukashenko had repeatedly stoked fear in the population and accused the opposition of planning a violent overthrow. With a view to the mass protests against him, he once said that a revolution like the one in neighboring Ukraine had been prevented.
After the presidential election on August 9th last year, which was widely considered to be falsified, hundreds of thousands of people had called for Lukashenko's resignation and new elections. He had been declared the election winner with 80,1 percent of the vote. The EU does not recognize Lukashenko as president and has imposed sanctions on the power apparatus in Minsk. But it still relies on Russia as its most important ally.
