Corona is leaving deep marks in the southwest industry

The corona pandemic left deep marks on the industry in the south-west last year. The State Statistical Office spoke in a statement on Wednesday of one of the worst recessions in recent history. With the start of the anti-corona measures in spring 2020, the demand for industrial products collapsed, production and sales fell significantly, it said. Towards the end of the year, however, there were clear signs of recovery again.

With a total of 346,6 billion euros, the turnover of industrial companies was nevertheless significantly below the previous year's level - by 23,2 billion euros or 6,3 percent. Around half of the total industrial turnover in Baden-Württemberg comes from the automotive and mechanical engineering sectors alone.
